SOFTWARE
Software is organized information or instructions
and code written by programmers in special computer language that enables the
computers to work. Software is like a giving a computer a brain. A computer would
not be capable of processing data without software. Hard drive is the medium
that holds the software in computer. Most software comes in the form of
programs in computers which tells the hardware what to do and how to behave.
Whenever the computer needs to does processing it must use a set of
instructions called software.
EXPLANATION
Software falls into two following main categories:
- Application Software
Application Software is program used
by many people to execute frequently performed tasks. These tasks include
writing documents (word processing), working with numbers (Spreadsheet), keeping
track of information (databases), developing multimedia and graphic content,
facilitating Internet usage, and a variety of other tasks handled by home and educational
programs. These applications were once found only on home and business
computers, but today they are on mobile devices and media-specific technology

System software is the software which is used to run the
hardware and other application software. It acts as interface between hardware
and user application. It converts all human instructions into machine language
(Binary Language 0’s and 1’s).The computer
does not understand human language, it only understands machine language so
system software acts as interpreter or interface and converts the human
instructions into machine understandable language so that computer can understand
and process it.
It has following major components:-
1 1. Operating System
Operating System is always the first software that is loaded
into the system when we switch on our system. It manages the memory, the
processor and the speed with which it will work.
System Utilities (also
called utility programs) are
programs that work in tandem with the operating system and perform services

Examples include disk utilities like defragmenters,
compressors and cleaners. There are also operating system utilities such as
antivirus programs, registry cleaners and system restoration programs. Internet
and network connection is managed by variety of small software utilities,
including firewall programs, while program installation and removal is achieved
by package managers and installation clients.
